Stuff About Anime

Hello, everybody, and welcome to my blogsite.

To start things off, I'm going to discuss something that I, and I'm sure some of you reading this would enjoy: Anime. For those of you who don't know what it is, anime is the term given to cartoons that originate from Japan. If you've ever seen Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball Z, or anything like that, then you have seen anime. Unlike the cartoons we get in the West, which is mainly made for children to watch, anime is made for a variety of audiences, different series being targeted at different age groups and genders.

The first anime I have ever seen would have to be the Pokemon series. In fact, I've seen all three of the series I just mentioned in the last paragraph. I never realized that I've been watching anime since childhood until I was 14, when I first got into the hit anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist. Interesting series, I suggest you watch it.

I was at my aunt's beach house in Raumati Beach over the holidays in Year 10. I would sit around and watch Cartoon Network for hours on end. I stayed up late at night watching, and that's when I saw it. It was an advertisement for a TV series that was gonna come on later in the night, called Fullmetal Alchemist. One of the things it showed was a priest with a gatling gun! Who wouldn't want to see that? Anyway, I waited til 1 in the morning when it finally came on and what I saw changed the way I saw cartoons. This was WAY different from any other cartoon I've seen. It had swearing, blood, and the powers that some people had in the show (alchemy) amazed me! From then on, throughout the rest of my holiday, I would stay up and watch whenever it came on, which was Monday thru Thursday. From then on, I became engrossed in anime, adding new anime to my list of favorites (which you can see at the bottom of this page) and sharing them with my friends, or at least the friends I knew were interested in it, and they showed me some of the series they saw, like Elfin Lied and Rozen Maiden.

One of the things that really appeals to me about anime is how it is more akin it is to 'real' shows than cartoons as we in the West know them. In fact, in my mind, the only difference between some of the anime I watch and 'real' shows is that... well, they're animated, thats about it. If people would stop seeing anime as some gay nerdy cartoon crap, and start seeing it more as just a regular series, I'm sure they would enjoy it more.

If you are not particularly interested in anime, that is completely fine and entirely your business. Just don't ruin it for those of us that do. Also, I don't want people to post hate comments about anime, or just hate comments in general. If you don't like something, you don't have to rant on and on about how bad it is. Just shut up and go somewhere or do something you actually enjoy.

Thank you for reading my first post. More will follow, but it won't all be on anime, so don't worry.

  1. Hey man, Louis here just checking in. Just realised you actually had a blog, but hey, I'll be following!

That's quite an impressive collection of viewing you have there. I'm jealous, actually. There's a few series there I would love to watch right through, if I only had the time...

  3. Mainly Pokemon and Sonic X (-.-'). That probably says a lot, heh... uh... although I'm welcome to other ones; the annoying thing is that if you realise that a series is good after it started, you usually have to go and start from the beginning! As for uni, I've just finished holidays and I'm getting back into the usual routine. What about you? I don't think I know what you're studying.
